What we'd steer you away from
Thin, big-box 'patio-in-a-box' pavers without a real interlock, and anything set on a sand-only base with no compacted aggregate beneath it. On Charlotte clay, that's a patio that looks great for one summer and ripples by the next. Whatever material you choose, insist on a compacted ABC base, edge restraint and polymeric joint sand.
